Kareem BiggsBurke pleaded guilty to federal drug charges yesterday in a New York federal courtroom for his active role in a massive marijuana ring which involved at least 50 people.  He admitted to the plot to sell more than 200 pounds of marijuana.

The 38-year old mogul and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, the company which launched the rap career of superstar artist Jay-Z, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute.  U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain stood over his case

He faces a minimum sentence of five years with a maximum of forty years.  His sentence date has been scheduled for May 18th @ 12PM.

According to Burke’s plea agreement he has to forfeit his $660,000 New Jersey residence, $15,000 in cash that was seized from his home, and his 2010 BMW.

Federal authorities say the marijuana ring transported drugs and operated a distribution cell that stretched from New York and New Jersey down to South Florida.

The 18-month investigation, dubbed "Operation Green Venom," was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations directorate and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from police agencies in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Maryland and North Carolina.

"With Kareem Burke's guilty plea today, another member of this sprawling marijuana trafficking ring stands convicted," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a press release. "We will continue to pursue and punish those who traffic in illegal drugs."
