Kobe Bryant Talks About His Relationship With Shaquille O’ Neal

Posted: 16 Jul 2012 09:07 PM PDT

Kobe Bryant talks about his bitter sweet past relationship with ex-teammate Shaq.  The two men once paired together on the Los Angeles Lakers, but never were really friends, but played a hell of a game together.  When asked about maintaining a bond with Shaquille O’ Neal, this is what Kobe had to say

“There's things I wanted to do in my career, take my career to another level, that I was just uncapable of doing as long as we were playing together which I was fine with doing until I heard him say a few times, 'Kobe's not going to be as succesful without me, this, that and the other.' “

He went on to say,

"One of the big problems that he had with me is that I'm extremely, brutally honest with my guys,  If a player's not working as hard as he should, I'm gonna tell him. And that includes somebody's whose 7'3, 400 pounds. [laughs] Which is probably not the smartest thing in the world to do, but you know, it is what it is.”

Hopefully, they’ve since buried the hatchet and today have a mutual respect for one another, even though they know they’ll never be besties.  Maybe one day they’ll have a televised sit down and put it all on the table.  That’d be cool.
