Prop Joe From The Wire Found Dead In His Baltimore Home

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 03:38 PM PST

Prop Joe Died in His Sleep

The 52-year old, Robert F. Chew, better know as Prop Joe (or Proposition Joe) on the debunked HBO series The Wire was found dead in his Notrtheast Baltimore apartment.  His death was attributed to heart failure in his sleep per his sister, Clarice Chew.

Other than being an actor Chew was also a teacher and mentor to child and young adult actors at Baltimore’s Arena Players.  David Simon the creator of The Wire and The Corner, both of which Robert Chew played a role said,

“Robert was not only an exceptional actor, he was an essential part of the film and theater community in Baltimore.  He could have gone to New York or Los Angeles and commanded a lot more work, but he loved the city as his home and chose to remain here working. He understood so much about his craft that it was no surprise at all that we would go to him to coach our young actors in season four. He was the conduit through which they internalized their remarkable performances.”

Chew is survived by his mother and three sisters.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Calvin B. Scruggs Funeral Home, 1412 East Preston Street, Baltimore MD.  Rest in peace.

Shawty Lo Arrested in Atlanta

With All Them Babies Mamas it’s bound to happen.  Shawty Lo was arrested last night for reasons unknown, but it’s being speculated because of failure to pay child support on one of his 11 kids.

Police apprehended the drug dealer turned rapper at an Atlanta strip mall.  It’s reported that Shawty has already bailed out this morning and is currently back on the streets.

It’s been a rough week for the ATL rapper.  Oxygen network canceled his reality television show, All My Babies Mamas, before it even got started and now this.  If anybody could handle it, I’m sure he can.
